gpid and pos Support Added to Player Bidding

You can now include gpid and pos fields in bid requests for Player Bidding.

New Feature

Player Bidding now supports the imp.ext.gpid (Global Placement ID) and pos (Ad Position) fields. These optional values give demand partners better context about where an impression appears, improving targeting and consistency across platforms.

  • gpid: Publisher-defined string that uniquely identifies an ad placement across platforms and SSPs
  • pos: IAB-defined ad position type, which indicates the location of the ad within the content

Smarter Workflows and a Better User Experience

We’ve enhanced Dynamic Strategy Rules by making workflows more intuitive, expanding A/B testing support, enabling Connatix playlists, and improving overall usability.

New Features

  • Run A/B tests with more variants now that traffic splits support up to 15 branches.
  • Improved visibility of user traffic flows within a Strategy Rules Tree.
    • All traffic split and condition branches must now be added before all experience outcomes on the tree.
  • Connatix playlists can be used within the Partnership experience.
  • To minimize strategy creation errors and ensure the best user experience, each strategy must pass the following validations, when applicable:
    • Triggers that load a Partnership experience on an Ad no fill event must also include the trigger condition Ad Position Is Pre.
    • All key-value pairs must be lowercase.
    • Ad tag keys must be lowercase and use single-string values.
    • Page domains and URLs must be properly formatted and exclude protocols such as https:// and http://.
    • A strategy must be deliverable and not deleted to be linked to a placement.
    • Player UX name must be filled out.
  • The readability of the Strategy Rules Advertising page has been improved.

Bug Fixes

  • The Replace player with custom code option is removed from the Custom Codeexperience.
    • To achieve the same result, configure a trigger with multiple actions to remove the player and execute custom code.
  • When creating a new condition branch, the system opens the first branch when no other branches are defined for ease of entry
  • Explanation text correctly displays in the list view for Strategy Rule pages.
  • On the Media Curation tab, the media name displays instead of the media ID.

  • On the Media curation and JW video experience detail pages, layout and styling updates have been made to improve usability.

Bug Fixes

  • Strategies save successfully when they include a trigger in which Number of occurrences has been selected for the Event trigger frequency.
  • In the strategy tree, zoom controls respond to single-click actions, allowing users to zoom in, zoom out, and reset the zoom level.
  • The Trade Desk can now be added as a Player Bidding ad partner in the JWP dashboard without Support Team assistance.

Dynamic Strategy Rules: New Features and Bug Fixes

Dynamic Strategy Rules now include unsaved change alerts, better trigger validation, and precise content-to-ads ratios. We’ve also addressed several bugs.

New Features

  • Dynamic Strategy Rules pages now alert you about unsaved changes, prompting you to save before leaving.
  • In the Dynamic Strategy Rules Library, the Partnership Experience now displays Media Curation settings in a read-only view.
  • Within a trigger, the Switch to Partnership Experience action now includes validation rules for proper setup:

    • If the Trigger type is Advertising and the Trigger event is Ad no fill, the Event trigger conditions must be set to Ad Position Is Pre.
    • By default, the Remove Player action is part of the Switch to Partnership Experience action. It does not need to be added manually.
  • Dynamic Ads ad rules now allow setting the Content to ads ratio with precision to one decimal place.
  • Media conditions are now exclusively available within Event trigger conditions.
  • Triggers can only be added after a JW video experience in a strategy tree.

Bug Fixes

  • In the Dynamic Strategy Rules Library, existing JWP players can be located and imported when creating a new player UX.
  • In the Dynamic Strategy Rules Library, links to documentation open in a new tab.
  • On the Placements page, placements require a name for creation.
  • On the Playlist tab of a Media curation page, the Type: Single media dropdown list displays correctly.

The Dynamic Strategy Rules Library is Now Live!

We're excited to introduce the Dynamic Strategy Rules library, a new feature designed to simplify strategy management.

New Feature

This library provides a centralized repository for creating, storing, and reusing configurations for your JW Player Experiences.

Key Benefits

  • Reuse configurations across branches and strategies
  • Run A/B tests between configurations, promoting winning setups to enhance strategy performance
  • Create multiple versions of each configuration type
  • Centrally manage updates that automatically apply across all uses of the configuration

For more details, see the complete documentation for defining experiences in the Dynamic Strategy Rules library to create a JW Player Experience.

Deprecation

Advertising and Content Experiences will be deprecated. We strongly recommend recreating these experiences in the Dynamic Strategy Rules library.

  • All Ad Experience features are available in an Advertising experience configuration.
  • All Content Experience features are available on either the Player UX or Media Curation experience configuration.

Enhanced Placement Controls, Autostart Triggers, and Infinite Scroll Support

This update introduces new features, including easier navigation from placements to linked strategies, a trigger action for setting autostart behavior, and support for infinite scrolling websites. Additionally, the Click to Play on error setting for pre-roll ads has been deprecated.

New Features

  • When a placement is linked to a strategy, you can click View Strategy on the placement's settings page to navigate to the strategy.
  • You can set autostart behavior through a new trigger action.
  • The placement embed script now supports infinite scrolling websites.

Deprecation

The Click to Play on error setting for pre-roll ads on the Advertising Experience page has been removed.

To recreate this behavior, you can create a trigger with the following settings:

  • Trigger Type: Advertising Event
  • Trigger Event: Ad No Fill
  • Event Trigger Frequency: Every time
  • Action Type: Player/Playback + Action: Stop
  • Action Type: Player/Playback + Action: Set Autostart > Off (This prevents the player from restarting when a viewer scrolls the player back into view.)
